Client Aftercare
Hair Replacement Aftercare Guide
General guidance for existing iHobbs Crown Integration, Mesh Integration, Crown Enhancer and Custom Wig clients. Correct home care and appropriate professional maintenance protect the system, support your own hair and scalp, and keep the result looking and performing as intended.
Your individual instructions from iHobbs always take priority over this general guidance.
Everyday home care
Caring for your hair day to day
How your system is washed, detangled, dried and styled affects how it looks and how it performs. Appropriate cleansing removes everyday oils, perspiration and product build up; gentle handling reduces avoidable tangling, matting and unnecessary tension.
Washing and conditioning
- Before washing, gently detangle. Do not begin washing badly tangled hair.
- Keep the hair predominantly travelling in its natural downward direction.
- Cleanse gently. Do not scrub, aggressively rub or pile the lengths together.
- Apply conditioner primarily through the lengths and ends, unless your individual system instructions say otherwise.
- Rinse thoroughly, and handle wet hair gently — no aggressive towel rubbing, twisting or bunching.
Brushing and detangling
- Detangle gently and regularly rather than allowing knots to build.
- Start from the ends and progressively work upwards, supporting the hair where appropriate.
- Avoid unnecessary pulling against integrated attachment areas or supporting hair, and never force through resistance.
Drying, heat and styling
- Remove excess water gently and dry in a controlled manner. Do not automatically use maximum heat.
- Exercise care around attachment points, mesh, lace, tapes, clips and other system components.
- Use appropriate heat protection where heat styling is used, and avoid unnecessary repeated high heat.
- Excessive oils, sprays, waxes and styling products can create build up, and may not be appropriate around every attachment or system area.
No universal rules
iHobbs does not publish a single washing frequency or maximum styling temperature for everyone. What is appropriate depends on your system, your scalp, your lifestyle and the products you use — follow the guidance given for your own system.
Lifestyle care
Hair replacement should work within real life
Sleep, exercise, swimming and travel all place additional demands on replacement hair. A small amount of preparation protects a great deal.
Sleeping
- Do not go to bed with wet replacement hair. Dry appropriately before sleeping.
- Detangle gently before bed and secure longer hair loosely where appropriate.
- Avoid tight ponytails, tight braids and high tension arrangements.
- A silk or satin pillowcase, or an appropriate sleep covering, may help reduce friction.
Exercise and perspiration
- Do not ignore significant perspiration. Cleanse and dry appropriately.
- Secure hair sensibly, without excessive tension, and detangle after activity where necessary.
- Avoid persistently leaving hair, or accessible scalp, damp after significant perspiration.
Swimming and holidays
- Where swimming is appropriate for your system, wet the hair thoroughly with clean fresh water before entering a pool or the sea.
- After swimming, rinse thoroughly with clean fresh water as soon as reasonably practical, then cleanse, condition and dry appropriately.
- Do not repeatedly allow chlorine or salt water to dry into the hair.
- Prolonged sun exposure may affect the colour and condition of replacement hair.
By system
Crown Enhancer. Remove your Crown Enhancer before sleeping and before swimming; it may also be removed for strenuous exercise where that is practical.
Crown Integration & Mesh Integration. Prepare and protect the hair as above, but leave the professionally fitted system itself alone — an integrated system must never be tightened, repositioned or adjusted by you after sleep, exercise or swimming.
Custom Wigs. Follow the individual instructions provided to you for sleeping, exercise and swimming, and contact iHobbs if you are unsure.
Honest boundaries
iHobbs does not describe any system as gym proof, waterproof, swim proof or holiday proof. If you are planning a holiday involving significant swimming, heat or a major change in routine, speak to iHobbs before you travel.
Professional maintenance
Maintenance is not simply tightening the system
Home aftercare is what you are responsible for between appointments — washing, drying, detangling, everyday handling, styling and product choice. Professional maintenance is what iHobbs performs when a system requires specialist removal, natural hair and scalp access, system care and professional refitting.
Home aftercare supports professional maintenance. It does not replace it.
The iHobbs Maintenance Protocol
For Crown Integration System and Mesh Integration System clients, professional maintenance follows a defined sequence:
- 01Complete system removal
- 02Access to the natural hair and scalp
- 03Appropriate scalp care
- 04Natural hair cleansing
- 05Appropriate conditioning
- 06System care and preparation
- 07Professional refit
- 08Finish and styling
Repeated tightening without appropriate removal can restrict proper access to your natural hair and scalp. The iHobbs standard is to remove the system appropriately so the hair and scalp underneath can be seen, cleansed and cared for before the system is refitted and finished.
Approved maintenance guidance
- Crown Integration System
- Generally every 6 to 8 weeks
- Mesh Integration System
- Generally every 6 to 8 weeks
Your individual maintenance schedule may vary, and the interval advised by iHobbs for your own system takes priority over this general guidance.
Professional work only
Unless specifically instructed by iHobbs, clients must not tighten, reposition, cut, alter, repair, remove or refit an integrated system, and must not apply unapproved tapes, glues or adhesives. Crown Enhancer clients may remove and reapply the system as instructed, but should not modify the base or attachment structure — repeated or prolonged clip tension can contribute to traction related hair loss, and iHobbs does not recommend Crown Enhancers for continuous everyday wear.
If something feels wrong, do not try to fix it yourself. Contact iHobbs.
Support
Do not wait for a small concern to become a bigger problem
Hair replacement should not routinely cause persistent pain or significant discomfort. Contact iHobbs if you experience:
- Persistent pain or discomfort.
- Unexpected pulling or tension.
- Movement or loosening.
- Significant matting or tangling.
- Damaged system components.
- Noticeable changes in fit.
- Persistent scalp irritation or soreness.
- Anything about the system you are unsure about.
iHobbs can assess concerns relating to your hair replacement system and provide appropriate hair replacement guidance. Where a scalp or hair concern may require medical assessment, we may recommend that you speak to your GP or another suitably qualified healthcare professional.
Early contact is usually easier to deal with than an attempted home repair.

Good aftercare is a partnership. What you do at home supports the professional maintenance carried out at iHobbs, while your individual instructions remain the primary guidance for your own hair replacement system.
